Work will remain closed until the demands of doctors are met
Agitating junior doctors in Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital case said on Monday after meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the strike and protest will continue until their demands are met. The agitating junior doctors said that “the removal of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel is our moral victory.” One of the agitating doctors said, “We will strike our work and continue our protest at the Swasthya Bhavan (health department headquarters) until the promises made by the chief minister are fulfilled. We are also waiting for the hearing in the Supreme Court on Tuesday regarding the RG Kar rape-murder case.”
Mamta Banerjee accepted the demands of the doctors
The junior doctors said they will hold a meeting after the hearing on Tuesday and decide on their “stoppage of work” and protest. The doctors were addressing the media at the ‘Swasthya Bhavan’ after returning from Banerjee’s Kalighat residence. A meeting was held between the chief minister and a delegation of doctors at Banerjee’s Kalighat residence. Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday night accepted the demands of the agitating junior doctors and announced that Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel, Director of Health Services and Director of Medical Education would be removed from their posts.

After the meeting with the doctors, Banerjee said that the talks were ‘successful’ and about “99 percent of their (doctors’) demands have been accepted.” Let us tell you that the meeting of doctors with CM Mamata Banerjee yesterday did not yield any significant result. Let us tell you that 42 doctors were present in this meeting. Mamata Banerjee talked to all the doctors separately. After the meeting, Mamata Banerjee while talking to the media said that we have accepted 99 percent of the demands of the junior doctors. The CBI is investigating the matter. We have accepted basically three demands of the doctors. DME, DHA will be removed from the post.
