Hyundai Tucson has received a 5 star safety rating in crash tests from the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP or Bharat NCAP). It has received a 5-star safety rating in adult protection and child protection categories in crash tests from BNCAP. In the crash test, the car scored 30.84 out of 32 points for adult safety and 41 out of 49 points for child safety.
The Tucson is the fifth vehicle and the first from Hyundai to be tested in BNCAP. Earlier, crash tests of Mahindra XUV 3XO, Mahindra All these cars got 5 star safety rating in crash test.
Hyundai Tucson: Adult Occupant Protection Crash Test Frontal Impact – In the frontal impact test conducted at a speed of 64kmph, Hyundai Tucson got 14.84 points out of 16. In this, the protection of all body parts of the co-driver has been said to be ‘good’. The driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and below the knees received ‘good’ protection, while protection for the driver’s chest and toes was rated ‘adequate’.
Side Impact and Side Pole Test – The Tucson was tested in a side impact test at a speed of 50kmph, in which it scored 16 out of 16. In this, all the body parts of the driver got good protection in side barrier test and side pole impact test. Based on the performance of these three tests, Citroen Basalt was given 30.84 points out of 32 and 5 star safety rating in the adult protection category.
Hyundai Tucson: Child Occupant Protection Crash Test In this test, dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child were placed on the child restraint system in the opposite direction. In terms of child passenger safety, the Tucson car has got full points 24/24 in the dynamic test. For the safety of the dummy, it got 8 out of 8 points in the front protection test and 4 out of 4 points in the side protection test. Got 5 points out of 13 in Vehicle Assessment Test. Based on all these crash tests, Tucson got 41 out of 49 points in the child protection category, which resulted in a 5 star crash test rating in this category.
Crash test process
1. For the test, 4 to 5 human-like dummies are seated in the car. There is a child dummy in the back seat, which is fixed to the child ISOFIX anchor seat.2. The vehicle is collided with an offset deformable barrier (hard object) at a fixed speed to see how much damage is caused to the vehicle and the dummy. This is done in three ways.
- In the frontal impact test, the car is hit with a barrier at a speed of 64 kmph.
- In the side impact test, the vehicle is hit with a barrier at a speed of 50 kmph.
- In the pole side impact test, the car will be seen hitting a pole at a fixed speed. If the car achieves 3 star rating in the first two tests, the third test is conducted.
2. In the test, it is seen how much damage was done to the dummy after the impact, whether the airbags and safety features worked or not. Rating is given on the basis of all these.
Hyundai Tucson: Price and Comparison The price of Hyundai Tucson SUV ranges between Rs 29.02 lakh to Rs 35.94 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). In the segment, it competes with Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross and Volkswagen Taigun.
