SSB rescued a Nepali girl from the clutches of a human trafficker.
Bahraich: In Uttar Pradesh, a team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has freed a 17-year-old Nepali girl from the clutches of a suspected human trafficker. Giving information about this on Tuesday, officials said that the girl was allegedly being trafficked and taken to Bengaluru. An official said that the girl was handed over to an NGO in Nepal and the accused human trafficker was handed over to the Nepal Police.
‘Vigilance has been increased on India-Nepal border’
Dilip Kumar, Deputy Commander of SSB’s 42nd Battalion, said, ‘Under the ‘Operation Alert’ issued in view of Prayagraj Mahakumbh, we have increased vigilance on the India-Nepal border and intensified security checks.’ Kumar said that on Monday evening, SSB personnel stopped the accused and the teenager at Rupaidiha border post (BOP) when they were boarding the India-Nepal Friendship Bus.
‘I was promised marriage and job’
The officer said, “When his actions appeared suspicious, when he was interrogated, he could not answer properly, which further deepened our suspicion.” Investigation revealed that the girl, a resident of Kalikot district of Nepal, was lured by 21-year-old Paras Bisht, a resident of the same area, on the pretext of marriage and a job in Bengaluru. Both came in contact through social media. Bisht, who worked in Bengaluru, allegedly convinced the girl to run away from home without informing her family and brought her to India.
Both countries had recently held a high level meeting
Kumar said that the girl was handed over to the NGO of Nepal in the presence of Nepal Police. This operation was conducted under the leadership of Raj Ranjan, acting commandant of 42nd battalion. In view of the upcoming celebrations of Maha Kumbh and Republic Day, a recent high level meeting between officials of the two countries discussed human trafficking and other forms of smuggling To curb this, it was agreed to increase surveillance and joint patrolling on the India-Nepal border.
