Junior doctors at Mamata’s residence
Kolkata: In West Bengal, the meeting between the striking junior doctors and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee could not take place. The delegation of junior doctors had reached the CM’s residence. But there was a deadlock on the issue of live telecast of the meeting and ultimately the meeting could not take place. Meanwhile, the protesting doctors have claimed that on the appeal of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, they had agreed to attend the meeting by withdrawing their demand for live telecast, but they were asked to leave the venue in an “insensitive manner”.
Demand for video recording or live broadcast
Before leaving the CM’s residence, one of the protesting doctors said they had agreed to attend the meeting without live streaming or video recording as requested by Banerjee. The talks were held at the CM’s residence. “When we came here, we demanded video recording or live streaming of the talks. We were not allowed that. Then the CM came out and appealed to us to join the talks, promising that we would get full details of the meeting. We discussed the proposal among ourselves and agreed to attend the meeting without live streaming or video recording,” the doctor said.
He said, “When we told this to the Minister of State for Health, Chandrima Bhattacharya, we were asked to leave as it was too late and they had been waiting for us for three hours. We were asked to leave in an insensitive manner.” Another doctor, with tears in his eyes in front of the camera, said that this incident revealed the “real intention” of the state government. He said, “This shows who is not serious about this dialogue.”
The junior doctors have shared a video in which Bhattacharya can be seen asking them to leave as it is too late. In the video, she can be heard saying, “We have been waiting for three hours but you people did not come inside. Now it is too late.” PTI-Bhasha cannot independently confirm the authenticity of this video. This scheduled meeting between Banerjee and the protesting doctors could not take place due to the deadlock over its live telecast. These doctors are protesting over the incident by doing RG. Banerjee had appealed to the junior doctors to attend the meeting despite the deadlock. (Bhasha)
