China launched a 10G broadband network at Sunan County, Hebei province on April 20, 2025. Here “G” means gigabit, not generation. It is the world’s first commercial wired broadband network that gives up to 10 gigabits per second (GBPS).
It does not belong to wireless mobile networks like 5G or 6G. It uses Advanced Fiber-Optic Technology 50G Passive Optical Network (50G-Pon). Huawei and China Unicom together have launched this network.
Download 20GB size 4K movie in 20 seconds
It provides 9,834 Mbps download and upload speed of 1,008 Mbps with 3 millisecade latcanas. Understand this speed in such a way that it takes about 7-10 minutes on 1 GBPS connection to download about 20 GB size 4K movies. With the new 10G broadband network, it will look less than 20 seconds.

Remote Surgery and AI-Drives Smart Homes will use 10G network
The 10G network is designed to support data-intensive, low-altancy applications. This will be useful in seamless cloud gaming, remote surgery and AI-Drives Smart Homes.
Apart from this, smart city, telemedicine, remote education and smart agriculture will also be supported. For example, it can handle real-time data processing for autonomous driving systems. This is part of China’s plans.
China left behind broadband speed of countries like UAE and Qatar
The 10G broadband network launch has led to lead to China Global Broadband Technology. It has surpassed the current commercial broadband speed of countries such as the UAE and Qatar, where the average speed is 543 Mbps and 521 Mbps.
Initial launch in Sunan County and Zionag ‘is part of the National Strategy, a broader in China. China wants to expand it to 168 locations.
China’s broadband speed 100 times more than India
India’s broadband infrastructure depends mainly on wireless techniques such as fiber-optic (FTTH), DSL, cable and 5G fixed wireless access (FWA). The fastest provides providers such as real-world exciteal. It has an average download speed 77.2 Mbps in Delhi and uploaded speed 54.7 Mbps.
Some providers, such as Geopyer and Airtel Xstream fiber, advertise plans up to 1 GBPS, but real-world speed is often low due to infrastructure boundaries. In March 2025, India’s average fixed broadband speed download was 58.62 Mbps and 50.42 Mbps for upload. It was ranked 87th in the world.
China’s 10G network is 100 times higher than India’s real world broadband speed (9,834 Mbps vs. 77.2 Mbps).
Huawei was established in 1987
Huawei was established in 1987 and is headquartered in Shenzhen. It is a global leader in telecom equipment and network solutions. The company has played an important role in furthering optical broadband and 5G techniques.
On the other hand, China Unicom is one of China’s three major government -owned telecom operators. It is broadband, mobile and enterprise services around the country.
