If you have your own bike or scooter, then you can also start earning by registering on cab service platforms. And if you ride, the option of cheap and fast bike taxi service is ready for you.
The central government has given permission to use private (non-transport, white number plate) motorcycles for ride-sharing and bike taxi services. The Ministry of Road Transport (MORTH) has informed its annual report Motor Vehicle Agricultural Guidelines (MVAG) 2025.
These service will run through aggregators such as Rapido, Uber and Ola, but these platforms will have to get approval from the state governments. This decision has been taken due to the rapid increase in demand of bike-sharing, electric vehicles (EV) and auto-rickshaw rides in India since 2020.
What is new guidelines?
- State governments will decide whether they allow private bikes for taxi service here.
- State governments can charge fees from Agrigeters (eg Uber, Rapido) according to daily, weekly, or fortnight.
- Drivers need to have a valid driving license, insurance and good condition of the vehicle.
- Even if the ride is canceled by the customer, he will have to pay 10% of the rent or a maximum of ₹ 100 penalty.
- Agrigator will have to review the ratings of cab drivers every 3 months and make a report.
- If the rating of a driver is less than 5, he will have to undergo training. If the driver still fails, his services will be finished.
- The car has to be connected to the central server of the company by installing location tracking devices. The location data will have to be linked to the control and command center of the state.
- The central government has advised all the states to implement these new rules by the next three months, ie September 2025.
- Cab service aggregators will have to pay a health insurance of Rs 5 lakh for drivers and a term insurance of Rs 10 lakh.
- If the driver uses his bike, he will get at least 80% fair. If the bike is from the aggregator, the driver will get 60% fair.
- In peak hours, the aggregators can charge the base fair to double, but there will be no hidden charge.
