This year, in the first quarter, Google removed 23 thousand channels from YouTube.
Google has removed more than 11,000 channels and accounts from video streaming platform YouTube. All of them are accused of spreading propaganda associated with China, Russia and other countries.
The action on channels was taken in the second quarter (April-June) of 2025. The company has taken this step to prevent misinformation and impact operations by Google’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG).
What is the whole matter?
- Google reported that the highest number of 7700 channels of deleted channels were associated with China. They were put on videos in Hindi, Chinese and English languages, which used to comment on the Chinese government, President Xi Jinping’s praise and America’s foreign policy.
- At the same time, around 2,000 channels were found to be associated with Russia, who used to favor Russia and criticized Ukraine, NATO and Western countries. These channels used to share content in many languages.
- In addition, in May, Google also closed 20 YouTube channels, 4 advertising accounts and 1 blogger pages associated with Russia’s State-Controled Media RT (Russia Today).
- RT is alleged to have asked Conservative Influencers to make content before the 2024 elections. All this action is part of Google’s attempt to fight disinfections.

34 thousand channels have been removed so far this year
Google says that these channels were part of the ‘Coordinated Influence Operations’, that is, they were being run in a systematic manner for a particular purpose.
China’s channels were engaged in flashing their country images and targeting the US, while Russia’s channels were spreading propaganda against Ukraine Jung and Western countries.
Google’s Tag team discovered them and removed them from the platform. More than 23,000 accounts were also removed in the first quarter, that is, more than 34,000 channels have been removed in 2025 so far.
Channels of these countries should also be removed
This action is not limited to China and Russia only. According to reports, propaganda channels have also been received from countries like Azerbaijan, Iran, Türkiye, Israel, Romania and Ghana.
Some of them targeted political opponents, while some tried to affect the Israeli-Filistine war like Geopolitical Tension. This shows how big the game of incorrect information on digital platforms has become.

Meta also removed 1 crore fake profiles
Google is not alone. Meta also stated last week that it had removed about 1 crore (10 million) fake profiles in the first half of 2025, which was copying large content creators.
Meta says that this “spammy” was done to prevent content, so that real content promotes on Facebook and Instagram.
