Fake news and miss-information are being spread on social media platforms amid increasing tension between India and Pakistan. To prevent this, the central government is pressurizing the meta and X (Twitter).
According to media reports, the central government is instructing to remove more than 1,000 posts daily from social media under the IT Act. For this, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has also held a high-level meeting with social media companies.
Social media companies have blocked access to cricketers’ accounts like Babar Azam, Shahid Afridi including Pakistani actors like Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, Hania Aamir.
Yesterday 8000 x account was ordered to close
Amid stress from Pakistan, the Government of India has ordered the closure of 8000 x accounts spreading fake news. These include the account of International News Organization.
The X has made this claim through its Global Governance Affairs Account. The platform said that we do not agree with this, these posts and accounts will not be seen just in India.
Global Government Affairs posted on their official X account and said that the Government of India has issued orders to ban such accounts and posts, which are spreading fake news, propaganda for Pakistan and anti -India content (text, photos and videos).
The government says that this action has been taken to strengthen national security and cyber security. Some accounts are accused of spreading instability in India and broadcasting wrong information.
Order to remove Pakistani content from OTT platforms
Earlier, the central government on Thursday directed all OTT (over-the-top) and streaming platforms to remove content related to Pakistan immediately.
Pakistani content has been banned citing national security reasons in the advisory of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This action has been taken under the IT Act 2021.
OTT platforms will have to remove all types of Pakistani content
- After the order, all the web series and films made in Pakistan, whether subscription-based or free, will be removed.
- The Pakistani songs, albums and Artists like Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan on streaming platforms will also be removed.
- Pakistani origin podcasts, audio shows, or any voice-based content available on Indian platforms will also be removed.
- Pakistani channels TV shows, documents, programs have also been banned which are streaming on OTT.
Government of India banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels
Earlier, on 27 April, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Government of India has banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels. According to government sources, these channels are accused of spreading inflammatory, communal and misleading news against India, Indian Army and security agencies.
Pakistani actors were also banned
The FWICE (Film Federation of Western Cine Employees) has recently written a letter to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting that if any Indian will work with Pakistani artists, it will have a case of treason. Also, the person working with Pakistani artists will be banned from the Indian industry.
Obviously, Fawad Khan’s film Abir Gulal will no longer be released in India amid controversies. Hania Aamir is also being replaced by the film Sardar 3.
The ban started after Uri attack
After the Uri attack in 2016, all Pakistani artists were banned for working in India. This was the reason that artists like Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan had to leave many films in India. In 2023, the Bombay High Court dismissed the petition to ban Pakistani artists, saying that artists cannot be punished due to political tension.
This was the reason that Pakistani artists were again given work in Hindi cinema. Hania Aamir got work in the film Sardar 3 with Diljit Dosanjh, while Fawad Khan was about to make a Bollywood comeback with the film Abir Gulal.
X banned 2.30 lakh Indian accounts in April-May Ilon Musk’s company X Corp has banned 230,892 accounts in India between 26 April and 25 May. Of these, 2,29,925 accounts have been banned for promoting children’s sexual abuse and non-culture nudity. At the same time, 967 accounts have been removed on charges of promoting terrorism.
According to the new IT rules, 2021, in its monthly report, X said that between April 26 and May 25, it received 17,580 complaints from X users in India. During this time, the company also processed 76 complaints against the account suspension.
The company banned 1.84 lakh accounts in March-April Earlier, between March 26 and April 25, X had banned 1,84,241 accounts in India. In this, 1,303 accounts were banned for promoting terrorism. At the same time, a total of 213,862 accounts were banned between 26 February and 25 March. There were 1,235 such accounts that were closed due to promoting terrorism in the country.
