Tata Motors recently launched its most popular electric car Nexon EV’s Long Range variant with 45kwh battery pack. This variant has got a 5-star safety score in the crash test from India New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP or India NCAP).
In the crash test, the car secured 29.86 out of 32 for adult safety and 44.95 out of 49 for child safety. In June-2024, Nexon EV got the same score in the Crash Test held at India-NCAP.


Crash Test Process
1. For test, 4 to 5 dummy like humans is seated in a car. The child has dummy on the back seat, which is fixed on the child isofix anchor seat. 2. The vehicle is seen hitting the offset deformable barrier (hard object) at fixed speed and how much damage is done to the car and dummy. This is done in three ways.
- In the frontal impact test, the car is hit by a barrier at a speed of 64 kmph.
- In the side impact test, the vehicle is hitting the barrier at a speed of 50 kmph.
- In the pole side impact test, the car will be seen hitting the pole at fixed speed. In the first two Tests, the third test is done on achieving 3 star ratings of the car.
2. In the Test, it is seen in the test how much damage was done after impact, airbags and safety features worked or not. Rating is given based on all these.
