The new generation Maruti Suzuki Dezire will compete with Honda’s upcoming Amaze.
Maruti Suzuki has launched the new generation model of its best-selling sedan Dezire in India. It has been introduced in both petrol and CNG powertrain options. The company claims that the CNG version of the car will give a mileage of 33.73km/kg.
The special thing is that recently the car was crash tested in Global NCAP, where it got 5 star safety rating. It is the first car from the company to receive a 5-star safety rating from any crash test agency and is also the first 5-star rated sedan in the Indian market.
The fourth generation Maruti Suzuki Dezire is based on the company’s hatchback Maruti Swift platform, but its design is completely different. The car has been introduced with electric sunroof, 6 airbags as standard and many segment first features.
Price starts from Rs 6.79 lakh The sedan has been launched in the market in only 4 variants – LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+. The ex-showroom starting price of the updated model has been kept at Rs 6.79 lakh, which goes up to Rs 10.14 lakh in the top variant ZXI Petrol CNG. This price is valid only till the end of 2024.
Maruti Dezire can be availed on subscription basis, with installments starting from Rs 18,248 per month. This includes registration, maintenance, insurance and roadside assistance. It will compete with Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor in the sedan segment.
Design: 15-inch alloy wheels with LED headlight The 2024 Dzire may be built on the platform of the Swift hatchback, but its look has been completely different. Its front has a large grille with multiple horizontal slats, which is completely different from Swift’s honeycomb pattern grille.
Sleek LED headlights have been provided on both sides of the grille, on which the DRL (Daytime Running Light) has been positioned in a horizontal layout. It has a front bumper with strong looks, which now has a new style fog lamp housing.
However, its side profile and windowline still look similar to the old version. For riding, it has newly designed 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, it has Y-shaped LED taillights, which are connected to a chrome element.
Interior: Swift facelift and front-inspired design The new generation Dezire gets an all-new dashboard layout with a black and white dual-tone theme, which is inspired by the Swift facelift, Ford Figo, Baleno and Brezza. It has a 9.0-inch floating infotainment system, sleek AC vents and HVAC controls at the bottom.
Apart from this, the car has wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car technology, more than 40 connected car features, wireless charger, semi-digital cluster with 4.2-inch MID, steering wheel mounted controls, automatic climate control, push-button start. Rear parking camera with sensors and much more will be available.
For passenger safety, it has been provided with safety features like 6 airbags (standard), 360 degree camera (segment first), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and rear parking sensor.
Performance: Mileage of 33.73 km/kg in CNG The biggest change in the sedan has been made in its powertrain. In place of the K12 four-cylinder petrol engine found in the current model, a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine from the Z-series has been given, which comes in the new Swift. This engine generates power of 82hp and torque of 112Nm.
In comparison, the current model generates 90hp and 113Nm, which is 8hp and 1Nm less. The new Swift will get the option of 5-speed manual and automatic (AMT) gearbox with the engine for transmission. This engine generates power of 70hp and torque of 102Nm with CNG.
Talking about mileage, the company claims that the car gives a mileage of 24.79 km/liter with petrol engine and manual transmission and 25.71 km/liter with automatic transmission. At the same time, only manual transmission option is available in CNG, with which the car gives a mileage of 33.73 km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming sedan Dezire has received a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. The agency released the crash test results on Friday (November 8). According to GNCAP, Dezire has got 31.24 out of 34 points for adult and 39.20 out of 49 points for child safety.
This is the first car from Maruti, which has received 5 star rating for adult and 4 star rating for child safety from any crash test agency. Earlier, Maruti’s Brezza had got the highest 4 star safety rating. At the same time, the third generation Dezire got only 2 star safety rating in the crash test.
